Invitation to the 18th Seminar within the Framework of the Swedish IT Security Network for PhD students (SWITS 2018)

13-15 June 2018

Place: Stockholm, KTH main campus

We hereby want to invite you to the 18th seminar of our Swedish IT Security Research Network for Ph.D. students (SWITS 2018). Previous SWITS seminars have been arranged by Karlstad University, Stockholm University/KTH, BTH, Linköping University, Chalmers University of Technology, Skövde University, Örebro University, Lund University, Uppsala University and Mälardalens Högskolan, Linköping University and Oslo (in cooperation with COINS), where at each seminar we had about 25-70 participating PhD students and supervisors from Swedish Universities/University Colleges and other Swedish research organisations

This year the SWITS seminar will be hosted by KTH and for the first time it will be part of the CySeP Summer School (see:

Aims of the SWITS network and seminars are:

- To enhance cooperation between research labs and PhD student

- To offer the PhD students the possibility to present their research work, to get feedback and inspirations

- To discuss future activities and projects

- To identify courseware usable on national level and make these available to participating departments

- To identify existing PhD courses at Swedish Universities/ University Colleges and make them available for all students within the network

- To participate in the organization of compact IT security courses or summer schools for PhD students at international level and open them for all students of the network

- To share outside/expert lecturers

(see also: ).

This year, the SWITS 2018 will be held at KTH, Panos Papadimitratos will be the local organiser. We decided to experiment with new forms for the SWITS seminar this year and therefore welcomed the offer by Panos to organize SWITS as part of CySeP. This also means that we will have the SWITS seminar over the 3 days that CySeP is running (13-15 June). The invited CySeP talks will be given in morning and early afternoon sessions, and the SWITS seminar presentations will take place in the afternoons.

PhD students will again have the opportunity to present their research to an auditorium of other PhD candidates and research advisors. All PhD students that want to participate are requested to submit a one-page abstract of a presentation about their current research. The abstract should be in English and should be submitted by the 13th May 2018 at:

(Please note that Easychair is used for collecting all contributions, which will however not be reviewed).

This year, you can deliver a talk, or present a poster (with a short talk), or have both a regular SWITS talk and a poster. Please indicate at the title of submission which option you prefer, as explained here ( You are welcome to submit more than one abstract (e.g., one talk, one poster).

Presentations will be in English and will be 10minutes (depending on the number of presentations) plus time for questions. We will also have shorter poster presentations of 5 minutes. Besides, research groups will again be invited to give an overview of their research work. Please feel welcome to send us further suggestions.

SWITS attendees are welcome to also attend Monday and Tuesday, June 11-12, with additional talks and hands on exercises. The overall program will be soon available here:
